Boiler Upgrade Scheme 2026

Are You Eligible for a £9,000 Heat Pump Grant?

Boiler Upgrade Scheme 2026: Are You Leaving £9,000 on the Table?

Here's something most homeowners in England and Wales don't know.

Under the Boiler Upgrade Scheme 2026, the government will put £7,500 towards replacing your boiler with an air source heat pump. If your home runs on oil or LPG, that's now £9,000.

There's no income checks and no loan to pay back. You don't fill in any forms either. Yet thousands of eligible homes still haven't claimed it.

Why? Most people assume it's too good to be true, or too complicated, or not meant for "people like us."

It's none of those. In the next 3 minutes, you'll know exactly whether you qualify, how much you'll get, and how to claim it without lifting a pen.

What is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme 2026, in plain English?

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a government grant, run by Ofgem, that takes money straight off the price of a new low-carbon heating system such as an air source heat pump.

You don't need to pay full price for a heat pump and wait for the refund. Your MCS-certified installer applies for the grant for you and takes it off your quote from day one.

From 21 July 2026, homes heated by oil or LPG can claim an extra £1,500 on top of the standard grant, taking it to £9,000. The catch: under current rules, this uplift is temporary and set to run until 31 March 2027. After that, there's no guarantee it'll still be there.

If you're off the gas grid and tired of watching the oil tank or waiting on deliveries, this is the best time there has ever been to switch.

Do you qualify for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme 2026? The 60-second checklist

You're very likely eligible for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme 2026 if you can say yes to all of these:

– You own the property (or you're a landlord), in England or Wales
– You're replacing fossil-fuel heating, such as a gas, oil or LPG boiler
– It's an existing home, not a new build
– You'll use an MCS-certified installer (PHS is one ✔)

Usually not eligible: most new builds, social housing, and homes that have already had government funding for a heat pump.

There's no income cap, so you don't need to be on benefits or a low income to claim.

How to claim your grant: 4 steps, zero paperwork for you

Step 1: Tell us about your home. Take our quick quiz or give us a call.

Step 2: Free home survey. An expert checks your property, works out the right size of system and confirms your eligibility.

Step 3: We apply for your grant. As an MCS-certified installer, PHS handles the whole Ofgem application for you.

Step 4: Enjoy lower-carbon heating. Your grant comes straight off your quote. You only pay the difference. That's it. You never deal with Ofgem directly.

3 costly Boiler Upgrade Scheme mistakes homeowners make

Mistake 1: Waiting. Grant rates and uplifts change. The £9,000 rate is temporary. Waiting could cost you thousands.

Mistake 2: Using a non-MCS installer. Only an MCS-certified installer can claim the grant. Use anyone else and you lose it entirely.

Mistake 3: Choosing the cheapest quote over the right system. A heat pump that's the wrong size costs you on every energy bill for the next 20 years. Proper design matters.
