British homes deserve clean, affordable heating.
The technology that’s heating 30% of European homes, is finally becoming the norm in the UK.
Air source heat pumps have been the standard in Scandinavia, Germany, and France for decades. Now, with UK energy prices through the roof, they’re finally making sense here too.

The UK is starting to upgrade.
Heat Pump installations are soaring every year. From 2027, all new builds must install low carbon heating systems, making air source heat pump installations the standard and phasing out gas.
We're paying too much
Energy bills have surged 44% since 2020, not to mention rising costs elsewhere. We’re simply paying too much.
We're exposed
Relying on imported gas and oil means we’re exposed to price hikes driven by global instability and events that are out of our control.
Our cO2 emissions are high
Home heating accounts for a significant portion of the UK’s carbon emissions, with millions of homes still burning fossil fuels daily.
£9,000 grant available
Hundreds of thousands of homeowners have already taken advantage of the heat pump installation grant. Grants range from £7,500 to £9,000. Claim while it’s available.
Introducing the air source heat pump
The smarter way to heat your home and water
Air source heat pumps extract thermal energy from outside air (even in freezing conditions), compress it to higher temperatures, and distribute it through your existing radiators or underfloor heating system. Get your free no-obligation heat pump installation quote below.
Why homeowners are choosing heat pumps
Control Spend
Air source heat pumps can save you hundreds on your energy bills every year — and when paired with solar panels, homeowners see those savings compound even further.
Lower Carbon
Air source heat pumps produce zero direct emissions and when paired with solar panels, many homeowners move closer to net zero without changing how they live.
£9,000 Available
Right now, under the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, homeowners may be eligible to claim up to £9,000 to assist with the cost of upgrading to a low carbon air source heat pump.
Energy Stability
Heat pumps run on electricity rather than imported fossil fuels, insulating you from global gas/ oil price shocks and giving you more control over your energy costs.

Your questions answered
Common questions
If your question isn't listed, please reach out to us below.
Are heat pumps worth it?
Absolutely, if your home is suitable then they deliver efficient, steady heating and long term savings. The key is a good, honest installer that can design and install the correct system with precision. Check out our Trustpilot reviews.
Are heat pumps noisy?
Air source heat pumps are not noisy. Modern heat pump technology has advanced significantly, and today’s units are engineered to operate at low noise levels.
You might notice a gentle hum or soft whir near the outdoor unit, but from inside your home, or next door, it’s unlikely you’ll hear anything at all. Noise is rarely a concern for homeowners once their system is installed.
Are heat pumps expensive to run?
No, running an air source heat pump is not expensive. Thanks to efficiency ratings of 300–400%, heat pumps use significantly less energy than traditional gas boilers, and most homeowners see a reduction in their heating bills after switching.
The quality of the installation makes all the difference. A poorly designed system can underperform and cost more to run, which is why choosing a reputable heat pump installer matters.
At Project Heating Solutions, we only install where we’re confident the system will perform. If your home needs insulation upgrades or other improvements first, we’ll tell you upfront, honestly and without obligation.
Will a heat pump keep me as warm as my gas boiler does?
Yes, your home will always be warm and comfortable. Unlike a gas boiler, which fires up in short, high-heat bursts, an air source heat pump maintains your desired temperature consistently throughout the day. With an efficiency rating of 300–400%, it does this with minimal energy use.
You may notice your radiators feel cooler to the touch than they would with a gas boiler, and that’s completely normal. Heat pumps are engineered to heat your home gradually and continuously rather than blasting high heat intermittently, which is actually what makes them so efficient.
How do heat pumps work when it's freezing outside?
One of the most common questions about air source heat pumps is how they perform in cold weather, and the answer might surprise you. Even when outdoor temperatures drop below zero, there is still sufficient heat energy in the air for a heat pump to work efficiently. Most air source heat pumps are engineered to operate in temperatures as low as -15°C, and with built-in defrost technology, they keep your home warm reliably throughout every season.
Do heat pumps work in older properties?
Yes heat pumps can work very well in older properties. Older homes can present unique challenges, such as higher heat loss or traditional pipework, but the success of a heat pump system depends far more on expert design and installation than the age of the property itself.
Like any heating system, a heat pump will perform best in a well-insulated home. If a property has poor insulation or significant heat loss, it may struggle to maintain comfortable temperatures efficiently. That’s why proper assessment, system sizing, and design are so important.
At PHS, we carefully assess every home to ensure the system is suitable and performs efficiently before recommending an installation.
Why do heat pumps cost more than boilers?
Heat pumps are a more advanced technology, that last much longer than a standard boiler.
They require expert design, and specialist installation. Unlike a standard gas boiler replacement, a heat pump system must be carefully designed around your home using heat loss calculations, correct sizing, and system upgrades where needed. Installation also takes longer and requires highly skilled engineers.
While the upfront cost is higher, heat pumps are far more energy efficient than gas boilers and can deliver lower running costs and long-term savings when installed correctly.
How long does a heat pump installation take?
A typical air source heat pump installation takes around 3 days to complete. This includes removing your existing heating system, installing your new air source heat pump, commissioning the system, and ensuring everything is working efficiently before we show you how to use it.
What is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a UK government grant that helps homeowners cover the cost of a heat pump installation. The heat pump grant offers £7,500 towards an air source heat pump for homes on mains gas — rising to £9,000 for homes currently heated by oil or LPG (available from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027).
The grant is deducted upfront from your quote, so there’s nothing to claim back yourself. As an MCS-certified installer, PHS handles the entire application on your behalf, you won’t need to apply for anything or deal with any paperwork.
With funding confirmed through to March 2028, it remains one of the most effective ways to reduce the upfront cost of a professional heat pump installation.
Are Finance options available?
Yes, finance options are available. If you’re eligible for the government grant, you can finance the remainder of the costs. Making a heat pump installation even more affordable. Project Heating Solutions Limited is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
